Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is committed to providing an accessible and barrier-free learning environment, with services geared toward a wide range of needs.  Students using the services provided by SSD have disabilities which may include, but are not limited to:  vision, hearing, and mobility impairments, learning disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, chronic illnesses, chronic pain, and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders.

Accommodation is a means of preventing and removing barriers that impede students with disabilities from participating fully in the educational environment in a way that is responsive to their own unique circumstances.  The principle of accommodation involves dignity, individualization and inclusion (The Ontario Human Rights Commission, 2008).  The University recognizes its obligation to provide reasonable academic accommodation for students with disabilities where the accommodation can be implemented without compromising the academic integrity of the course or program.

SSD arranges academic accommodation for classes and exams, and provides digital textbooks, accessible campus transportation, learning strategy instructions, access to computer labs that are equipped with assistive technology, referrals for assessment, and other services and bursaries for students who meet OSAP’s eligibility criteria.

Once you have accepted your offer of admission, you must register with our services to schedule an individual meeting with one of our SSD Counsellors, and submit the required documentation.  Please contact Student Support Services at 519-433-3491 ext. 4321. 

It is imperative that your supporting documentation is received at Student Support Services prior to your appointment with an SSD Counsellor.  All information disclosed by students in SSD, will be kept confidential.
